Mammal Species Composition in Ini Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria

Ini Local Government Area (ILGA) is the home of biodiversity, rich in many species fauna and flora. However, anthropogenic activities carried out by inhabitants this area have been a threat to ecosystem, thereby exterminating wildlife resources. The data for study were collected from in-depth interviews with hunters, bushmeat markets, sellers, indirect direct survey methods, semi-structured questionnaire was employed household survey. A multiple sampling technique adopted. stratified random utilized stratify into six strata (clans). proportional used select 11 villages. In contrast, 60 heads randomly selected administration. revealed seventeen (17) mammal, which accounted four orders, Rodentia being highest (47%). Most (94%) had conservation status Least Concern (LC) based on IUCN Red List Threatened Species. Furthermore, illegal hunting deforestation agriculture infrastructural development led loss habitats. Thus, great need management practices protect these vulnerable mammals their habitats needed. Hunting laws, afforestation, reforestation programs should be implemented.
